PEACOCK PICKS UP GREG DANIELS' ‘OFFICE' UNIVERSE SERIES

A new mockumentary series set in the world of "The Office" is not only being developed - but was just picked up by Peacock. "The Office" creator Greg Daniels and "Nathan for You" co-creator Michael Koman's untitled project has been ordered to series, produced by UTV.

The untitled Daniels/Koman project will star British film star Domhnall Gleeson and "The White Lotus" Season 2 breakout Sabrina Impacciatore, as well as an ensemble cast that has yet to be announced. According to a press release from Peacock, the documentary crew behind "The Office" (who stepped out from behind the camera in controversial later seasons) is back to work looking for a new subject, "when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters." Like Dunder Mifflin's struggle with selling paper in the digital age, the series' synopsis suggests that it will tackle the dueling values of technological advancement and traditional media ethics.

"The Office" was originally created for BBC by Gervais and Stephen Merchant, where it ran from 2001 to 2003 before Daniels adapted it for American television in 2005. The U.S. version ran for nine seasons and earned 42 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including five wins (but famously -outrage! - none for Steve Carell as Michael Scott).

"It's been more than ten years since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock," Lisa Katz, President, NBCUniversal Entertainment, said in a statement. "In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper."

As the official streamer for NBC/Universal, Peacock is the natural home for Daniels' and Koman's new series, produced by Universal Television. The streamer is home to "The Office," as well as Daniels' and Michael Schur's "Parks and Recreation," "Parks and Rec" alum Dan Goor's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," and comedy contemporaries like "30 Rock" and "Modern Family."

The series is executive produced by Daniels and Koman along with Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman and Banijay Americas (formerly Reveille).
