How Does the Continuity Work?

"The Crow" has three separate continuities: the four original movies (1994-2005), the TV show (1998-1999), and the 2024 reboot.

If this sounds confusing, think of it like the various movieversions of Batman. Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, and Michael Keaton all play the character of Batman, just as Brandon Lee (1994), Mark Decascos (Stairway to Heaven) and Bill Skarsgård (2024) all play Eric Draven. Other than that common character, the individual stories have different continuities.

The primary continuity that most fans refer to when talking about the franchise is the one explored in the four original movies: The Crow, City of Angels, Salvation, and Wicked Prayer. Each of these films features a different character taking on the mantle of the titular antihero, but there is some connective tissue such as the character of Sarah, who appears in the first two entries.

Is the New Movie Connected to the Original?

The Crow (2024), starring Bill Skarsgård, is a complete reboot of the franchise and takes place within its own continuity. You don’t need to watch the original The Crow to understand the new The Crow.

Is the 'Stairway to Heaven' TV Series Canon?

The Crow: Stairway to Heaven was a live-action TV series that ran for one season from 1998 to 1999. The Stairway to Heaven TV series exists in its own continuity completely separate from all of the movies.

It’s primarily an alternate version of the same comic-book storyline that inspired the first movie and features several of the same plot elements and characters but with different actors in the roles.

You don’t need to watch The Crow: Stairway to Heaven to understand any of the movies, nor do you have to watch any of the movies to understand the TV series. The Crow : Stairway to Heaven TV series. The Crow: Stairway to Heaven is completely stand-alone.
