HIGHEST-GROSSING IRISH ACTOR HAS NEVER WON AN OSCAR

Irish actors have taken Hollywood by storm and it's not just a recent occurrence. Stars who hail from the Emerald Isle have always ruled the screen, going as far back as stars such as Maureen O'Hara.

Co Kildare native Paul Mescal and Dublin man Barry Keoghan, as well as emerging star Alison Oliver have seen recent success. Even Andrew Scott, who has been an actor for decades, has reached new levels of success with projects like All of Us Strangers.

Findings from CSGOLuck ranked Ireland's highest-earning actors. The person who takes the top spot will not surprise you.

Taking the number one spot on the list is Liam Neeson, who hails from Co Antrim in Northern Ireland. Neeson has had a hugely successful career.

As well as appearing in hugely popular franchises such as Star Wars and Taken, he has been nominated for an Oscar for his role in Schindler's List. Neeson's films have grossed an impressive £7,217,680,896.75, which is the equivalent of around $8,990,992,916.27, according to the study.

Neeson has appeared in a staggering 109 movies over his career which has lasted nearly 50 years. He won a BAFTA Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and two Tony Awards throughout his career.

Second on the list is Harry Potter star Michael Gambon who passed away last year.

The top-ten list of the highest-grossing actors according to the study is as follows:

  1. Liam Neeson
  2. Michael Gambon
  3. Domhnall Gleeson
  4. Kenneth Branagh
  5. Kerry Condon
  6. Devon Murray
  7. Brendan Gleeson
  8. Ciarán Hinds
  9. Cillian Murphy
  10. Sam Neill

"As more and more Irish actors rise through Hollywood's ranks, we were interested to know the Irish economic impact on the global box office," a spokesperson for CSGOLuck said.

"We were blown away to learn that the movies Irish actors have starred in have grossed more than £122 billion to date. These figures demonstrate how Irish actors continue to have a huge impact on world cinema and show that it is an incredibly exciting time for young performers such as Saoirse Ronan and Barry Keoghan."

Stars who were notably absent from the list include the likes of Colin Farrell and Michael Fassbender. However, many actors on the list have appeared in hugely successful franchises that have grossed billions.

While Liam Neeson and Domhnall Gleeson have starred in Star Wars, Michael Gambon, Devon Murray, and Brendan Gleeson have appeared in the Harry Potter franchise.

Meanwhile, Kerry Condon appeared as the voice of Iron Man's AI assistant FRIDAY in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
