DISNEY CONFIRMS THEY’RE SLOWING DOWN THE MARVEL STUDIOS RELEASE SCHEDULE MOVING FORWARD

The MCU reached its zenith with the release of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, an ambitious crossover that brought together all of the protagonists of over ten years of films. However, since then both critics and the public have not gone hand in hand with the new phases of the universe devised by Kevin Feige, achieving very different results between projects, something that is not helped by an obvious saturation of the genre in both film and television. Now, the CEO of Disney Bob Iger has reiterated their intention to narrow down the next Marvel Studios releases (via Variety) putting quality ahead of quantity.

Bob Iger takes the scythe for a walk with Marvel Studios

In order to achieve better results both in reviews and revenues, Iger has reiterated his intention to reduce the number of releases per year, which will one be reduced to two or three movies in cinemas and two Disney+ series per year: “We’re slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two, or a maximum of three. And we’re working hard on what that path is,” Iger assured.

He stated that they have “a couple of good films in ‘25 and then we’re heading to more ‘Avengers,’ which we’re extremely excited about. Overall, I feel great about the slate. It’s something that I’ve committed to spending more and more time on. The team is one that I have tremendous confidence in and the IP that we’re mining, including all the sequels that we’re doing, is second to none.”

For now, in 2025 the films that will be released in theaters are ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, ‘Thunderbolts’ and ‘The Fantastic Four’, with the ‘Blade’ project still in the air. Four more releases are planned for 2026, including the fifth part of ‘Avengers’, so we will have to wait to see if Bob Iger’s words already affect a calendar with several delays due to the recent strikes by scriptwriters and performers. To all this, we must add several series in the portfolio that have either already been filmed or are currently in full production, such as ‘Daredevil Born Again’.
