‘9 TO 5’ REMAKE IN THE WORKS WITH JENNIFER ANISTON SET TO PRODUCE

There have been talks to revive the 1980 film 9 to 5 starring Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda for years. In 2018, Fonda announced that a sequel to the popular film was in the works and she, alongside her two co-stars, would revive their roles in the new film. Unfortunately, Parton confirmed that the project was scrapped later that year due to the writers not being able to get a script just right.

There are big shoes to fill as the original 9 to 5 remains one of the highest-grossing box office comedies of all time, earning over $100 million (which would be around $300 million today). The original followed three women, played by Parton, Tomlin and Fonda who work for a horrible boss played by Dabney Coleman. The film spawned a five-season series starring Rita Moreno, Rachel Dennison (Parton’s real-life sister) and Valerie Curtin, plus a Broadway musical and of course, made “9 to 5” one of Parton’s most iconic hit songs.

Right now, the details about the new remake are scarce but it has been said that Friends star Jennifer Aniston will produce through her company Echo Films with her partner Kristin Hahn. Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody will write the script. She has written films such as Juno, Jennifer’s Body and more recently Lisa Frankenstein.

Echo Films has previously produced some well-received films such as Murder Mystery 2, Cake and Dumplin’. Aniston collaborated with Parton for the film Dumplin’ where Parton performed an original song called “Push and Pull” with the film’s star Danielle Macdonald and Aniston. We will keep you posted on any new updates on the 9 to 5 remake, including casting and plot details. Would you be interested in a 9 to 5 remake or sequel or should they just leave all of these classic movies alone?
