Strictly Come Dancing star, Karen Hauer, has hinted there are more victims of the show's 'curse' than we know about.

It comes after another couple connected with the sequin-strewn series has split. In sad news, professional dancer Ian Waite, who was on the show from 2004 to 2010, revealed he had broken up with his partner, Drew Merriman, yesterday, after trying to "work through their problems".

The couple aren't the only ones who have split since Strictly with famous examples including Seann Walsh and Katya Jones, who shared a steamy snog back in 2018. The tryst lead to the comic's breakup with his girlfriend, and Katya’s eventual divorce from pro dancer, Neil Jones.

But, Karen, 42, reckons there are more folk who have enjoyed extra curricular activities on the show, quipping: "Whoever wants to play, that's on them." Speaking to new! magazine, she said of the curse: "I’ve seen things. I’m not gonna talk about them. It exists. It’s there. Whoever wants to go and play, that’s there on them."

The Venezuelan star conceded that the celebrities and their partners spend hours each week nose-to-nose in the training room, but insisted that she has 'never strayed' out of respect for the job she loves and the people she works with.

She isn’t the only Strictly figure to have commented on the curse. A couple of years ago, Strictly co-presenter Claudia Winkleman shared her views on the phenomenon , telling Digital Spy: "I understand, it’s very intense. I don’t believe in the curse, but I think lots of people have come in single and they might have met somebody or had a little romance."

She added: "It’s intoxicating, Strictly, because you’re all part of this extraordinary juggernaut. So I don’t think people fall in love with people, they might just love the experience."

Other celebrities who have fallen victim to the curse include newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky and professional dancer Brendan Cole. After appearing on the first ever series of Strictly in 2004, there was clear chemistry between the pair, which they both denied. However, the rumours led to the breakdown of New Zealander Brendan’s marriage to his fiancée Camilla Dallerup, who was also a professional on the show.

Elsewhere, when Italian dancer Flavia Cacace was paired with EastEnders actor Matt Di Angelo, 36, on the 2007 series, the duo denied having an affair throughout the show when Flavia was in a relationship with dance partner Vincent Simone. However soon after Matt gushed they couldn’t wait to be a couple. “She's stupidly attractive. Every guy in Britain knows it,” he said. In 2010 they split and a few weeks later Flavia was dating her new Strictly partner Jimi Mistry. To this day the pair are happily married, shunning the public eye to live on a small farm in Devon.
