Susanna Reid announced a break from Good Morning Britain on Wednesday's show, revealing she won't be back in the ITV studio until September.

Ending the latest episode, Susanna, 53, said: "I'm going to say goodbye to you both because it's now time for me to go off on a break, which means I say goodbye to you at home. You never know, I might pop up in the meantime, but otherwise I will be back in September!"

This prompted co-host, Ed Balls, to respond in a four-word answer: "Do you have to?", he added: "Can't you just stay for a bit?" to which Susanna reassured him he would be in good hands amid her absence. Susanna insisted: "You will be in the capable hands of the rest of the Good Morning Britain team!", pointing out "lovely" co-stars Charlotte Hawkins and Laura Tobin.

Viewers will recall that it is typical for ITV's main presenters to take a long break over the summer with Lorraine and This Morning's hosts also taking time away in the past. Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to react to Susanna's announcement as one person said: "Susanna Reid is the only reason to watch #GMB!" while another quipped: "Off til Sept? Yes, rub it in Susanna #gmb."

It comes as Good Morning Britain underwent a presenter switch-up earlier this week as regular entertainment correspondent Richard Arnold was missing from the show.

Richard, 54, is a regular face on the morning programme as he offers viewers with showbiz news in the UK and across the pond. But on Tuesday and Wednesday's shows, Richard was replaced by Scarlette Douglas as she sat alongside presenters Susanna and Ed.

Scarlette, who appeared on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2022, sometimes steps in for Richard and also appeared on the show last month. However, there was no news regarding Richard's no-show. During her segment on Tuesday, Scarlette updated fans of the entertainment news across the UK. Footage was also played of Scarlette interviewing Nicole Scherzinger.

While on Wednesday, Scarlette put her name forward for a spot on Strictly Come Dancing. After discussing that Nadine Dorries, former Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport of the United Kingdom, is the latest name added to the line-up rumours, she said: "She's previously said she'd love to do Strictly and you know what, I'm going to be honest, so would I. So if you are listening out there Strictly team my dancing shoes are packed and I'm ready to make it all the way to Blackpool."
