PRINCE HARRY LISTS US AS PRIMARY RESIDENCE FOR FIRST TIME
The Duke of Sussex has declared the United States to be his new country of residence in business filings in the United Kingdom, it has emerged.
Documents lodged with Companies House reveal he amended his filings for Travalyst, his sustainable tourism initiative, to declare he is usually resident in the US, rather than the UK.
The Duke is a director of Travalyst, which he founded in 2019, and holds at least 75 per cent of the voting rights in the company, either directly or indirectly, according to the filing.
The Duke and Duchess relocated to the latter’s home state of California in 2020 after stepping back as working royals and quitting Britain.
The filings published by Companies House on Wednesday record the Duke by his full name, Prince Henry Charles Albert David Duke of Sussex.
In the filings for Travalyst, the Duke states the change to his primary residence dated from June 29 2023, but only registered on electronic filings this week.
It states that his ‘New Country/State Usually Resident’ is now the US. It was previously recorded as the UK.
The electronic filing related to a “change of individual person with significant control (PSC)”.
Royal watchers have pointed out that the date coincides with the point at which the Sussexes were asked by King Charles to vacate Frogmore Cottage, a property on the Windsor Estate gifted to them by the late Queen following their marriage.
The Sussexes were said to have been disappointed when told they were being evicted from the five-bedroom Georgian cottage, three years after announcing that they were quitting royal duties and relocating abroad.
The couple were said to consider the cottage the “only place that’s left as a safe space” for them and their children, Archie, four, and Lilibet, two, in the UK.
Phil Dampier, a royal author, suggested that the Duke may be signalling in his business filings both his hurt over the eviction from Frogmore Cottage and that he has permanently cut ties with the UK.
“As always with Harry a lot can be read into his actions,” he told The Sun.
“Being ousted from Frogmore Cottage wounded him deeply. Now he’s shown he accepts his life is in the US.”
It comes two days after the Duke lost a bid to appeal his case against the Home Office over the decision to remove his right to automatic police protection when he moved abroad.
The Duke has revealed he was considering applying for US citizenship, just the latest sign he intends to make America his permanent home.
Meanwhile, he faces an ongoing legal battle over the public disclosure of his US visa application.
Last month a judge ordered the US government to hand over the Duke’s visa application as he considers the question.
The US has been fighting to prevent the publication of the documents after the Duke revealed he had taken cannabis, cocaine and magic mushrooms in a memoir.
The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, is seeking the release of his papers to establish whether the Duke revealed his drug use on his application, as required.
